One of the aircraft detailed for operations on the 9.1.43 crashed on the return journey whilst over ENGLAND and 4 members of the crew were killed, the other number of the crew (Rear Gunner) was uninjured. The 4 aircraft detailed for daylight operations were cancelled, and 2 aircraft were detailed for daylight operations on 11.01.43. A lecture was given to 19 Air Gunners which lasted 1 hour.

5 aircraft detailed for mine laying operations, one of which was cancelled. The 4 sorties were carried out but 2 of the aircraft returned with their mines owing to very bad weather. The A.O.C. of No 1 Group visited the Station and presented Medals to Polish personnel.

2 Aircraft detailed for daylight operations on the 14th. Turret and cockpit drill was carried out by 15 Air Gunners for 1 hour. 1 A/C on cross country flight. 2 Aircraft on test and W/T test. Aircraft inspection carried out. Total non-operational flying for the day 2 hours 50 minutes.

The 2 Aircraft detailed for daylight operations carried out their task but one was unsuccessful and the load was brought back.
3 Aircraft detailed for night operations 2 of which were successful the other brought back its load.
In the afternoon the burial took place of the 4 members of the crew who lost their life on the night of 9.1.43. The were buried at NEWARK cemetary. 2 Aircraft on test and W/T test.

Exercises were attended by 35 aircrew personnel from 09.00 hrs to 09.15 hrs. 09.145 hrs to 10.15 hrs Dinghy drill and Radio transmitting test – 30 aircrew personnel attended. 1 Aircraft on a cross country flight from BASE – BRAMCOTE – BASE. Another aircraft on a cross country flight – BASE – ANDOVER – ELY – BASE. 14.15 hrs to 15.45 hrs a lecture was given by the Intelligence Officer. Subject of the lecture was “Enemy target” (Town) and method of camouflage used by Germany this was illustrated by slides on the screen. 17 aircrew personnel attended. Aircraft inspection carried out. (Total non-operational flying time 4 hrs 25 minutes).
