Duxford

Weather fine. P/O. Jastrzebski and F/L. Laguna attached to Duxford. F/Lt. Chlopik killed in action whilst attached to Duzford. Aircratf was shot down over North Weald and was burnt out. Body found some distance from a ircraft and it was assumed that pilot had sustained some injury when attempting t o bale out. Aircraft No.P.2954.
Five Do.17´s, two Do. 15´s, one Do.215 (shared) destroyed, (one He.111, two Do. 17´s, one Do.215, one Me.109 probables ). Attacka commenced at 12. 1 0 hours over S.E. London at 17,000 ft.
Further combats in the afternoon resulted in two Do.17´s and one Do.216 being destroyed also one Do.17 and one Me.109 as probables. This actionbcommen c ed over North London at 10.000 ft. when a large formation of enemy aircraft was seen.

S/L. Mumler, and P/O. Wapniarek, also P/O. Davis (Adjutant) and P/O. Jokiel (Intelligence) on temporary duty at Duxford.

Weather rainy. F/L.s Riley, Thomson and Farmer and F/O. Carter attached to Duxford. Scramble was ordered as 16 50 hours. About 30 enemy aircraft we re sighed over the Thames Estuary flying at 16,000 ft. Squadron attacked and five Ju.88´s, one Do.215 and one Do.17 were destroyed two Do.17´s and one Ju.88´s probable and one Ju.88 demaged. Our casualty was one Hurricane damaged, the pilot force landing in a field No. Chalmsford through pieces of enemy aircraft hitting his aircraft, breaking one of the prop blades and hitting his glycol radiator.
Place: Duxford, Date: 18/9.1940 – Weather fine. Practice flying. P/O. Lapka admitted to Ely Hospital. One Ju.88 shot down by “B” flight. Enemy aircraft cought fire after bein g attacked and dived steeply through clouds. After gliding for ab out two minutes it crashed to earth about four miles N.E. of Brandon.

Karwowski ceased to be attac hed to Duxford and returned to 302 at Leconfield. Also F/Lt´s Thomson, Riley, Farmer, and F/O. Carter, P/O. Jastrzebski and S/L. Laguna ceased to be attached to Duxford.

Sgt. Paterek shot down one He.111. His aircraft was hit by pieces of enem y aircraft and he had to force land Nr. Chelsmford. Pilot uninjured, aircraft slightly d emaged.

P/O. Wapniarek reported failure of airscrew pitch change on landing from a flight. Enquiry decided that it was impossible to discover cau se. Sgt. Zaluski taxied aircraft P.3935 into stationary Hurricane P.3924, causing s light damage to both.
