Sgt. Pilot Sniec (Polish) flying Hurricane P.3759, crashed whilst carrying out night flying training. The following is a summary of the Pilots report : -
“I took off at 2325 hours. During my second landing after 1 hours flight, I came in to land with an excessive speed and at the end of the landing run my aircraft pulled up in a heap of sand near the boundary of the aerodrome.”.
The aircraft was Cat. B and the pilot was uninjured. The diagnosis of the primary cause of the accident was put down to excessive landing speed which caused overshooting of aerodrome.
Instructions received from Headquarters, No. 9 Group that four aircraft together with a proportion of the maintenance are to be attached to R.A.F. Station Valley, for a period probably exceeding one month. Personnel to be changed over at fortnightly intervals. Accordingly six pilots, F/Lt. Kowalski, P/O. Wroblewski, P/O. Gutowski, P/O. Gorzula, Sgt. Nowakiewicz and Sgt. Szope from “A” Flight, together with 16 other airmen, proceeded to Valley on the 16th.
Authority received from H.Q. 9 Group for the promotion of F/Lt. Witorzenc and F/O. Krol to A/S/Ldr and A/F/Lt. respectively wef. 29/5/41.
Particulars received from Polish Records regarding permanent war ranks of Polish Airmen. 32 airmen granted various permanent war ranks of F/Sgt. Sgt or Cpl., some airmen already holding the equivilent acting paid rank. The date of effect was from 1/3/41.
