Commencing on 11.10.41, this Squadron was re-equipped with Spitfire aircraft. The re-equipping was completed bu 15.10.41 by which time this Unit held 18 Spitfire VB and 2 Spitfire IIA aircraft. The serviceable Hurricane IIB aircraft were collected by No. 2 Delivery Flight , Colerne for delivery to No. 245 Squadron. Further collections were made as Hurricane IIB aircraft became serviceable. During re-equipment, practice landings, and formation flights were carried out.

17.15 – After completion of a practice flight in Spitfire WB AD 248, Sgt/Pilot Lysek came into land. He landed on the runway in the direction of the “T” with side wind blowing at an angle of 20-25°. At the end of the landing run the aircraft began to turn which resulted in a broken leg and damaged right wing. The Pilot,was uninjured.

Seventeen aircraft and Pilots, with the necessary maintenance personnel, were attached to R.A.F. Station, Ibsley, for one week during which time cannon firing into the sea was carried out. No firing was carried out at fixed targets, the firing merely taking place to “run in” the new cannons.
