12.35. – 14.00. Bomber escort sweep – eleven aircraft (P/O Daszewski breaking away early).Made rendezvous over Hastings 13.05 hrs 13000 feet, and then proceeded to Boulogne. Bombs were observed to burst near the port. Enemy aircraft were seen but they did not attempt to attack.

14.40. Operational patrol over occupied territory. Rendezvous with 601 Sqdn over base. One aircraft returned with engine trouble, the others crossed the coast at Dungeness: they then flew over the French coast near Boulogne, and patrolled to Calais and returned. No flak was experienced, but four Me.109s were sighted but not attacked. One aircraft damaged in landing at Hawkinge (Sgt. Popek). S/Ldr Henneberg tipped up when attempting to return. He was unhurt but aircraft slightly damaged.

12.30. Three aircraft were ordered to intercept a Ju-88. A friendly aircraft was attacked in error, but with no casualties. There were numerous flight patrols during the day – but nothing further of consequence.

12.00. The Squadron took off for bomber escort duties. They rendezvous over Maidstone at 12.30 hrs and proceeded as high escort. The Squadron was attacked by six Me.109s. Their single attacks were ineffective, but their tactics and climb enabled them to avoid counter attacks. F/O Zumbach alone fired his guns – without noticeable result. Some very ineffective A.A. fire was encountered.
17.15. A patrol at 31000 feet was carried out over Dungeness, but there was nothing to report.
