S/Ldr. Orzechowski posted to No. 245 Squadron. Section composed of F/Lt. Tennant, F/O. Slonski, Sgt. Slonski took of at 11.50 for a patrol ordered by Operations Room over Birmingham. The patrol flew there at 1500 feet and sometimes at 3500 feet – depending on height of cloud. One pilot saw only a bogey, not recognised who hid quickly in cloud. Landed at 12.40.

Section composed of F/Lt. TENNANT, F/Lt. ZAREMBA, Sgt. PIETRZAK took of at 12.45 for a patrol ordered by Operations Room over BIRMINGHAM. The patrol flew there at 8,000 feet. No interception. According to the information of Operations Room E/A turned back to South. Landed at 13.20.
Section composed of F/Lt. KENNARD, P/O. BIELKIEWICZ, P/O. JANKOWSKI took of at 13.45 for a patrol. ordered by Operations Room over COVENTRY. The patrol flew at 10,000 feet. E/A. was not seen – no interception. Landed at 14,20.
Section composed of F/Lt. KENNARD, P/O. BIELKIEWICZ, P/O. JANKOWSKI took of at 16,05 with orders to patrol COVENTRY. At 16,10 hours ordered to vector 90 degrees for 5 minutes. Then it received vector 220 degrees then 260 degrees and then – at 16.40 hours one E/A sighted flying N.E. (H.E. 111 or Ju.88). E/A was 1,000 feet below the section, turned steeply round headed S.W. over BIRMINGHAM again. This section approached, E/A turned W – section carried out an astern chase and when closed to range attacked. Rear gunner was silenced carried out their attacks.All sections saw their rounds hit the E/A but it was not able to confirm the result because E/A dived into the clouds. Section saw starboard engine reduced to tick – over speed and No. 3 saw smoke from this engine also with much reduced forward speed.
Yellow 1 approached first and fired one long burst (all rounds) from the distance of 250 yards,
Yellow 2 fired one long burst (165 rounds per gun) from 350 yards, Yellow 3 fired three sharp bursts (175 rounds per gun) from 300 yards.
Yellow 3 had two bullets holes in left wing, one large bullet hole in the right of the cockpit close to the engine, one bullet hole through the throttle control, one bullet hole through port tyre, one bullet through the pilot’s seat. In spite of this he landed correctly without any damage to the aircraft. The section landed at 17.05 hours.

S/Ldr. Orzechowski left for No. 245 Squadron. Section composed of F/O. DAWBARN, F/O. NOWAK, F/O ZIELINSKI took of at 09.20 for a patrol ordered by Operations Room over Stoke – on – Trent. The section flew at 31,000 feet first over Stoke, after over Midlands. A bogey was seen over STOKE – ON – TRENT, but owing to big difference in height and distance, no interception. The patrol landed at BRIDGENORTH AERODROME at 10.50, and returned to TERN HIL at 16,00.
Section composed of F/LT. KENNARD, S/LDR. ROLSKI, SGT. TURZANSKI, took of at 11.30 for a patrol ordered by Operations Room over OSWESTRY – SHREWSBURY. The patrol flew there at 10,000 feet over SHREWSBURY, Blenheim was met at 7000 feet – probable reason of the patrol. E/A was not seen, no interception. Section landed at 12.00.

E/A was seen a a white trail in the sky probably at a height of 33,000 – 35,000 feet. The patrol reached 28,000 feet and Operations Room ordered them to land. No interception. Landed at 15.10.

A collision occurred between S/LDR. SCOOT in a Hurricane and an ANSON flown by two pupils. S/LDR. SCOOT in Hospital. Section composed S/LDR. SCOOT, F/O. NOWAK, F/O. ZIELINSKI took of at 12.45 for a patrol ordered by Operation Room over TERN HILL. The section flew at 15,000 feet. No interception. E/A was not seen. Landed at 13,20.

Section composed of F/O. DAWBARN, F/O. SLONSKI, SGT. SLONSKI took of at 15.30 for a patrol ordered by Operation Room over SHREWSBURY. The section flew there at 15,000 feet and saw E/A at distance 7 miles flying at great speed at 30,000 feet. Owing to the big difference of distance and height – there was no interception. While flying home, F/O. SLONSKI forced landed at High Ercall aerodrome but without any demage. Section landed at 16.45.

P/O. PETRUSZKA had to make a forced landing while on patrol, and his aircraft crashed. He was slightly injured and was taken to Hospital in Shrewsbury.

A heavy raid took place along Marseyside, and over Crewe and Chester, but only a few incendiary bombs feel in the vicinity of the aerodrome.
