1941-04-01

Tern Hill.

One patrol of one aircraft took place. The majority of the squadron left Tern Hill by road for Northolt as follows: 7 Officers by Private Vehicles, also 1 civilian and 13 Airmen. 113 Airmen travelled to Northolt in Service Transport followed by lorries containing all stores, stationery and equipment, leaving Tern Hill at 14.15 hours. As the weather was very bad the pilots and aircraft remained at Tern Hill.

00.30. The road conwoy with 113 Airmen, equipment, etc. arrived at R.A.F. Station Northolt, but all the Airmen proceeded to West Drayton by Service Transport and where they arrived at 01.15 hours. At West Drayton they were provided with a hot meal and accommodation for the night. They returned to R.A.F. Station Northolt at 09.00 hours.

32 Airmen proceeded by Service Motor Transport to R.A.F. Station Northolt.

14 Officer Pilots and 6 Airmen Pilots flew 20 Hurricanes to R.A.F. Station Northolt. 1 Officer Pilot flew one Magister to R.A.F. Station Northolt.

Squadron formation and battle climbing to 30,000 feet was carried out. 6 Hurricane II aircraft arrived and Hurricane I (five) were collected.

11 aircraft carried out a sweep over shipping from Felixtowe to Southend at 30,000 feet. In the afternoon the Squadron acted as part of the escort of six Blenheims which bombed aerodrome at Berck. One Hurricane II aircraft arrived.

Squadron formations and dog fighting were carried out. Two Hurricane II aircraft arrived.

Two aircraft acted as escort to a Hudson in which His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent was a passenger. S/Ldr. T. ROLSKI proceeded to No. 11 Group for a tactical discussion. One Hurricane I aircraft was collected from the Squadron.

F/O. B/L/V/ CHEW was posted from the Squadron to Headquarters No. 9 Group . Fighters attacks were carried out and three aircraft took part in night cirquits and landings.

12 Aircraft took part in patrols from Dungeness to Dover.

One Flight went to Tangnmere at dawn to patrol the aerodrome, as the Tangmere Squadron were engaged in a sweep over France, and a second Flight relieved them at 09.00 hours. Two English Wireless Operators were posted from the Squadron to No. 9 Group Sector Headquarters, Tern Hill.
G/Cptn. PAWLIKOWSKI visited the Squadron.

12 Aircraft took part in a patrol over a convoy between Sheerness and Felixtowe.

P/O. G.K. RANOSZEK arrived from No. 32 Squadron, Isbely on posting for Operations Room Duties. Four aircraft did a patrol over Barrow Deep.

14 Aircraft carried out Air – to - Sea firing. 12 Aircraft carried out Squadron Formation flying and three aircraft took part in dusk circquits and landings.

2 Hurricane I aircraft were collected. 10 Aircraft carried out partrols Maidstone Line at 15,000 ‘. 12 Aircraft took part in a Wing Sweep with 303 Squadron over the Thames Estuary and Channel. P/O. M. SKALSKI forced landed due to engine failure. The aircraft was damaged but the pilot safe.

P/O. S. SKALSKI was reposted to 306 Squadron from Operations Room duties to flying duties. / 28th Squadron formation flying and cloud flying was carried out. Three aircraft took part in dusk cirquits and landing.

12 aircraft patrolled Maidstone patrol line at 15,000 ‘. In the afternoon another patrol was made over the same line at 32,000 in the course of which. Sgt. Machowiak’s aircraft was hit at long range and damaged.
