1945-02-01

ANDREWS FIELD

Pilots took part in further long range escort work today – Ramrod 1448 – escorting Bombers to MUNCHEN GLADBACH. Mission was completed without incident.
Non Operational flying today consisted of aircraft tests, air to air firing, formation & cloud flying, local sorties together with practice dog fighting training.
P-2814 P/O Krzechlik, E proceeding on leave to Torquay was involved in a road accident and was admitted to R.N. Aux. Hospital Sherborne. This pilot was accordingly posted N/E Sick to 133 Wing Headquarters wef: todays date. P/O Krzechlik sustained injuries to his right arm – of a minor nature.

ANDREWS FIELD

No Operational flying undertaken today. Pilots carried out a training programme throughout the day. Training consisted of close formation flying and later Battle formation training. Several aircraft tests were carried out.

ANDREWS FIELD

Squadron pilots participated in Operation Rodeo 411. This Mission consisted of a fighter Sweep in the HANOVER area. No E/A were seen up against them, and the trip turned out uneventful apart from considerable “Flak” encountered en route. Non Operational flying today consisted of formation flying, dusk flying, high flying above 30,000ft: close formation: and later further Battle formation. Further aircraft tests were completed.

Thirteen pilots practised formation and cloud flying between 14.55 / 16.45 hrs today.
No other flying was undertaken.

ANDREWS FIELD

Pilots were kept busy with training again today. Training consisted of high flying sorties above 25,000ft|: practice dog fighting: fighter attacks with cine camera guns: formation: and practice fighter attacks. There was no Operational flying today.

ANDREWS FIELD

Squadron pilots taking part in Operation Ramrod 1453 escorted Lancasters to BIELEFELD. Some considerable Flak was met: but otherwise the trip was uneventful once again. No other flying was undertaken. Pilots landed at URSEL in Belgium after this Operation.

ANDREWS FIELD

Squadron pilots returned to Base from URSEL. They took off 15.45 hrs and landed Base 16.45 hrs without incident. Aircraft test were then carried out: and four pilots carried out section navigation training over Base. Two pilots made local sorties. This completed flying for the day.

ANDREWS FIELD

Pilots were released for the day as the Polish Prime Minister M. Artisczewski with a party of high ranking staff Officers visited the station here at Base. The Polish Prime Minister chatted with the pilots and gave a speech in Polish on Current Affairs affecting the Polish personnel generally.

Our pilots participated in Rodeo 411 today. This was a fighter sweep – with 316 Squadron in the area of COEVORDEN. Squadrons were again unlucky as the Hun would not give Battle. F/Lt Jeka had engine trouble: landing on the Continent at URSEL. Non Operational flying was made up of cross country navigation training throughout the day in which 10 pilots participated. Aircraft tests agan made.

F/Lt Jeka returned to Base from URSEL: after his engine had been adjusted over there.

ANDREWS FIELD

Pilots practised cloud and formation flying through the day and several aircraft tests were made. There was no Operational flying. P.2681 Pilot Officer Wacnik, S. K. proceeded on detachment to R.A.F. Station North Weald.

Twelve pilots carried out Squadron formation flying over Base between 14.45 hrs and 15.45 hrs today. There was no Operational flying undertaken. P/O Wacnik ceased detachment to North Weald.

Squadron pilots took part in Operation Ramrod 1461 – long range escort to HERFORD. Details are given in Appendix “A” to this Records.
P/O Budzichs aircraft developed engine trouble on the mission and pilot was forced to land on the Continent. P/O Budzich returned to Base later in the afternoon after repairs had been completed.

No Operational flying. Pilots carried out high flying training over 25,000ft and Squadron formation flying through the day. Battle exercises were also undertaken. Aircraft tests were completed also.

Squadron pilots – flying as part of 133 Wing took off part in “Ramrod Operation No. 1467” today. This Mission consisted of long range escorting of Lancasters bombing WESEL. Trip was without incident.

ANDREWS FIELD

No Operational flying today. Pilots carried out a training programme which was made up of:- Cloud flying training in formation: sic pilots: between 10.55 and 12.05 hrs. Local sorties and aircraft tests completed the days flying.

ANDREWS FIELD

On Operation Rodeo 416 today – our pilots at last had a chance to make contact with E/A. S/Ldr Zulikowski and F/Lt Tronczynski both attacked E/A and make claims accordingly. Full details of this Mission complete with combat reports are appended in Appendix “A” to this Record. Non Operational flying today consisted of aircraft tests only.
P.792015 W/O Pilot Tomczak, F was discharged from R.A.F. Hospital Cosford and returned to the Unit today.

Our Squadron pilot participated in Ramrod No. 1468. This Opeartion was a long range escort job – Lancasters to BIELEFELD again. Nothing to report. See Appendix.
Non Operational flying throughout today consisted of local sorties and aircraft tests.

ANDREWS FIELD

Slight rain and drizzle with Bad visibility kept the aircraft “Grounded” today. At lunch time two pilots were able to make and complete aircraft and weather tests, but this was the only flying possible.

ANDREWS FIELD

Operational flying today was consisted of a Bomber escort Mission to KAMEN and return with the rear half of a formation of Bombers. P/O Budzich returned early due to engine trouble. No other flying today. Operation uneventful. See Appendix “A”.

ANDREWS FIELD

Squadron pilots took part in Ramrod 1472 today. This Mission again consisted of escorting second half of a formation of Bombers to KAMEN. Full details are given in Appendix ‘A”.
Aircraft tests were the only non Operational sorties flown today.
Official presumption of death received for P.2684 P/O Zygmund, E reported “Missing Believed Killed wef: 29/7/44”.

Ramrod 1473 kept our Squadron pilots busy today. Mission was a long range escort sortie to Lancasters bombing a rafinery at DORTMUND. See Appendix “A”. Aircraft “F” piloted by W.O F/ Mrozowski developed engine trouble on the Operation and returned to Base early.

Our pilots alongwith other pilots of 133 Wing participated in Ramrod 1474 today. Mission was long range escort werk – Lancasters to M/Y at MAIN. Full details are shown in Appendix. Mission was uneventful. Non Operational flying today was composed of air to air firing by two pilots: aircraft tests: and local sorties. P.0779 F/Lt Wyrozemski – posted from 16 PSFTS for flying duties.
