Squadron pilots participated in Operation Ramrod 1527 – acting as Centre Section Formation escorting 250 Lancasters bombing NORDHAUSEN. Aircraft “J”, “M” and “C” landed on the Continent returning to Base later. Aircraft tests and local flying completed the days flying.

Pilots took part in Operation Ramrod 1528 – escorting Heavies again to NORDHAUSEN On return to Base after this Mission a training programme was undertaken. This included cloud flying, navigation, landings and local sorties.

Throughout the day our pilots carried out formation flying, and several aircraft tests. Wing was not required for Operations. P.704918 Sgt Pilot Ryll, S and p.705501 Sgt. Pilot Grabowski, J reported on posting from 133 Wing H.Q. for flying duties. P.0779 F/Lt Wyrozemski, K was posted to 315 Squadron also for flying duties and P.1817 F/Lt Marschall, K returned to the Squadron on posting from 133 Wing H.Q. P.2485 F/O Bzowski, J was admitted to Canadian Military Hospital Colchester.

“B” Flight pilots – 6 in all – carried out Flight formation flying between 11.20 and 12.20 hrs today. “B” Flight pilots carried out their Flight formation in two sorties Three pilots from 11.25 to 12.25 hrs: and a further 6 pilots from 15.05 to 16.20 hrs There was no Operational flying today. P.703045 W/O Pilot Zaworski, J: P.784331 W/O Pilot Krupa, W: and P.780369 W/O Pilot Zalenski, J were posted to P.A.F. Depot at Blackpool supernumerary pending disposal and on completion of their Operational Tours.

15.05. Four pilots carried out Formation flying: fighter attacks: practicse dog fighting over Base until 16.30 hrs.

Pilots were occupied with Operation Ramrod 1533 today. This Operation consisted of an escort mission with Lancasters to HAMBURG. 8 E/A attacked the formation and our C.O. Squadron Leader Zulikowski, J claims one ME. 262 as destroyed. Full details of this combat will be found in Appendix “A”. P.2458 F/O Bzowski, J was posted to 61 O.T.U. for flying Instructor Duties but whilst a patient in Canadian Military Hospital at Colchester.

12.45. 11 pilots took part in Operation Ramrod 1539 – escort to Lancasters bombing SWINEMUNDE. Please see Appendix “A” for details. Aircraft tests completed the days flying. P.1654 F/Lt Jeka, J was involved in a taxying accident on the Perimeter track at Andrews Field and collided with a Bowser. His aircraft was damaged Cat. “B” but fortunately pilot was uninjured.

09.35. Squadron pilots with 309/315 Squadrons led by W/Cdr Rutkowski carried out Ramrod 1541 escorting Lancasters to SWINEMUNDE. Bombers were met and escorted but Operation was later called off presumably due to 10/10ths cloud. Pilots landed at 11.30 with nothing to report. P.1817 F/Lt Marschall, K was discharged from S.Q. R.A.F. Andrews Field.

15.00. Pilots took off Base with 309/315 Squadrons for Operations Ramrod 1542 covering more Lancasters of SWINEMUNDE. Aircraft “Y” pilot F/O C. Hryniewiecki landed on the Continent after the Operation had been completed. Other pilots landed Base by 20.20 hrs. Nothing also to report.

11.05. Nine pilots from 306 alongside pilots of 309/315 Squadrons took part in Operation Ramrod 1544. This Mission was a fighter patrol over the Bomber stream North and South of their T/A – HELIGOLAND. Trip was uneventful and pilots had little to report on return to Base at 15.10 hrs.

10 Pilots participated in Ramrod 1545 – a further patrol in the area AUGSBURG / MUNICH and INGOLSTADT. The trip was without incident and there is nothing to report further than details in Appendix “A”. S/Ldr Zulikowski and Sgt Grabowski returned to Base after landing on the Continent on completion of Operation.

Eight pilots from 306 took part in Operation Ramrod 1547 – escort to Lancasters on REGENSBURG – with 309/315 Squadrons. Pilots had nothing of interest to report on their return to Base. Aircraft tests and air to sea firing completed the days flying.

Squadron pilots again with 309/315 Squadron pilots carried out Operational Ramrod 1551 – a fighter patrol North of BREMEN. Mission as planned. Uneventful. 11 Pilots from 306 Squadron.

11 pilots from 306 along with 309/315 Squadrons carried out Ramrod 1552. This Task was to provide Target and Withdrawal Cover to Lancasters on FLENSBURG. Pilots had little to report on their return to Base. W/Cdr Rutkowski led 133 Wing on this Mission.

11 pilots participated in Operation Ramrod 1553 with 309/315 Squadrons: Wing escorted Lancasters to BAD OLDOSLOE. On landing at Base after Operation aircraft “L” piloted by P/O Zyborski, A crashed and was Cat. ‘B”. It later came to light that this crash was due to faulty cockpit drill. Pilots Log Book received an endorsement. Presumption of death was received for P.1797 F/Lt Geca, B who was reported as ‘Missing wef: 7/6/44”.
P-0317 S/Ldr Marciniak, J was reclassified “Killed in Action wef: 23/6/44” this pilot had previously been reported as “Missing” wef: this date.

Our pilots took part in Operation Ramrod 1554 – a fighter sweep in co-operation with Lancasters bombing BERCHDESGARDEN. Nothing to report. Five pilots landed on the Continent after this Operation had been completed. These pilots returned to Base later in the day.
