A letter was received from Polish Air Force Depot – reference PAFD/257/P.1 dated 4/7/45 […] which repeats a copy of Signal P.224 dated 29/6/45 from Headquarters Technical Training Command reading as follows:- “CONFIDENTIAL – HIS MAJESTY THE KING ON THE RECOMMENDATION THE AIR OFFICER COMMANDING IN CHIEF FIGHTER COMMAND HAS APPROVED THE AWARD OF THE D.F.C. TO FLYING OFFICER J.A. SMIGIELSKI P.2476 306 POLISH SQUADRON – NOW P.A.F. Depot: AWARD […] BE PUBLISHED”.

Pilots carried out more training flying, through the day. Sorties were made up of Fo[…] cine gun training: practice bombing: aerobatics: photo attacks and interceptions.
10.35. Sgt Pilot Les, T pilot of Squadron aircraft Mustang III – KH:507 carrying out aerobatics with W/O Bezwuklo as his No. 1 – collided with another Mustang III of 315 Squadron sta [Illegible] also at Andrews Field. Aircraft of 315 Squadron was damaged in the air and pilot was [Illegible] badly injured on baling out – our pilot and aircraft landed safely with minor damages. [Illegible] aircraft was later classed as “Cat. A/C”.

14.00. Fourteen pilots from 306 Squadron were detailed to escort the King and Queen on their tour of Northern Ireland. Their Majesties flew from Hendon in Dakota aircraft. 306/315 Polish Squadrons escorted them to Northern Ireland – in a tight formation. After the Dakotas had landed the Squadrons landed at ALDEGROVE. This Operation was known as “Transport Escort No. 150”. Pilots touched down at 17.05 hrs.

17.10. – 20.25. Fourteen pilots returned to Base from Northern Ireland after providing a rear escort to Their Majesties transport aircraft to England. Both escorts were carried out as planned and were without incident. P.2814 F/O E. Krzechlik was admitted to Harrow Road Hospital London for treatment.

Headquarters No. 11 Group Signal AO/964 dated 20/7/45 was received today:- “MESSAGE RECEIVED TODAY FROM HIS MAJESTY “THANK YOU FOR YOUR WSCORTS – THE ESCORTING SQDNS TODAY FLEW SKILFULLY UNDER DIFFICULT WEATHER CONDITIONS” SIGNED: GEORGE R.I.”.

10.30. Nine Pilots of this Squadron carried out Squadron formation flying over Base until 12.05 hrs.
14.35. A further nine pilots from 306 Squadron took part in Practice Rodeo No. 7. This consisted of 306 and 309 Squadrons as a defensive force being scrambled to intercept an enemy fighter sweep. This exercise was carried out very successfully and it provided very good training for non Operational pilots in the two Squadrons. Pilots landed Base 16.10 hrs.
