P.2434 F/Lt Harasymowicz the Unit Medical Officer ceased detachment to R.A.F. Castle Camps and returned to Andrews Field. Atom Bomb No. 1 carried by a United States Superfortress a/c was dropped on HIROSHIMA. 4.1 square miles of the City was completely destroyed and it is believed that 110,000 people were killed. A new force is evident in War.

Main Party left Andrews Field by rail to Coltishall and arrived there at 07.00 hrs 9/8/45.
P.1899 F/Lt S. TRONCZYNSKI was involved in a taxying accident at Andrews Field. A pilot of 303 Squadron taxying his aircraft along the Perimeter track struck the a/c piloted by F/Lt Tronczynski and it was damaged – Cat A/C. No damage was sustained by our pilot.
S/LDR JEKA proceeded to Headquarters Polish Air Force London for an interview. U.S.S.R. declared War on Japan.

The Red Army invaded Manchuria on a wide front. Atom Bomb No. 2 was dropped on NAGASAKI and the City was left in ruins. The Japanese announced that they would accept Allied terms provided that they did not prejudice the prerogatives of their Emperor. Negotiations began. Road Party left for Coltishall.

Throughout today 22 pilots carried out Sector Reccos over the new Base – Coltishall. The Japanese Nation accepted the formula of Unconditional Surrender. This great news was broadcast to the Nation from No. 10 Downing Street at 12 Midnight 14/8/45 by the Prime Minister the Rt Hon Clement R. Attle. 15th and 16th August 1945 were declared as “VJ” days and as General Holidays for all. The Nation rejoiced: mad scenes in London and all towns.

GENERALLY EXERCISE NOT SO SUCCESSFUL AS SOME PREVIOUS ONES. CONTROL & GROUND STAFFS MUST BE ON THEIR TOES TO GIVE SQUADRONS A CHANCE etc”.
