Traing flights. Attacks and formation – canon firing. Scramble over Flamboro’.

1942-06-02

a.m. Formation flying with new pilots. Cannon firing.
14.10 p.m. Squadron set off for West Malling where they join up with 306 Sqdn. Polish Wing, lead by S/Ldr. Zak, patrol Cap Gris Nez to Le Touuet, whilst Boston bombers bomb Dieppe. Operatiosn warn that e/a were over le Touquet – but no encounters made. Weak A.A. fire. Squdn. back at base by 20.15.

p.m. Training flights. Practice interception.

1942-06-04

a.m. 1 section scrambles. 1 Section protects convoy.
p.m. 2nd Sweep. Squadron leve at 13.50 for West Malling and join up with 306. Boston bombers attack Bouglougne. Wing escort bombers half way over and then sweep coast to Cap Gris Nez. No encounters. Squadron back at Base at 20.15.

Bad day for flying. a.m. 2 Sections on scramble. p.m. cannon firing.

1942-06-06

07.50 3rd Sweep. Squadron leave for West malling and join 306. Bombers attack Fecamp. Polish wing is on top and sweep coast as before. No encouners. Wing back at West Malling at 12.20.
p.m. Wing go out on second sweep, but are recalled before reaching coast. Back at Base at 16.15.
In evening farewell to W/Cdr. Morice.

1942-06-07

a.m. Three Sections scramble. 2 over Flamboro, 1 over Church Fenton. Training flights. Squadron formation and practice interception. F/Lt. Koc takes over “A” Flight. P/O. Schiele reports as newly commissioned. F/O. Kleczynski returns from Intelligence course.

1942-06-08

a.m. One section patrol convoy at same time a second section scramble.
p.m. Wing formation flight with 306. Practice interceptions. Dress rehearsal for Squadron concert.

1942-06-09

a.m. convoy patrol. Scramble over Flamboro’.
Usual training flights. In evening sqdn. concert with help oa WAAFS ad station orchestra. Quite a good reception. Proceeds go for parcels to Squadron prisoners of war.

Training flights as previously. “A” flight go to Matlaske for Air Fring.

a.m. Scramble over Flamboro’. Two sections patrol convoy.
p.m. Wing flight with 306, one section called away to scramble over Hornsea. F/O. Zbyszynski posted to station pending posting overseas.

1942-06-12

a.m. Two sestions scramble over Withernsea – Flamboro’.
p.m. Squadron formation flying. Interception co-operation with G.C.I. signal arrives about re-informcement in 11 Group area.

1942-06-13

Unfit for flying. Lecture to pilots by Sgt. Pilot who escaped from Germany. Posting for F/O. Chelmecki to 302 Squadron. Ferewell dring in Mess.

1942-06-14

a.m. Three Sections protect convoy. Blind flying in Master.
In evening celebratio of United Nations Day at Beverley. Small party sent to give local colour.

1942-06-15

Unfit for flying. Link Trainer practice at Leconfield. P/O. Ronowicz returns from detachment.

1942-06-16

a.m. Navigation and map reading flight.
p.m. Intelligence Officer gives talk and Secrecy and Security. M.O. gives talk on Veneral Disease in which secrecy is condemned, though security strongly recommended. Previous instrustion about re-inforcement cancelled.

1942-06-17

a.m. Two sections scramble over Flamboro’. formation flying.
p.m. Sector reconnaissance for new pilots posted from O.T.U. B. flgith go to Matlaska for air firing.

1942-06-18

a.m. 1 section scrambe. Usual training flights.
p.m. Mustang flies over and is looked at by pilots. 5 pilots go to Leconfield for Link Trainer.

1942-06-19

a.m. Squadron formation practice.
p.m. Wing formation flight with 303. 1 Section patrols Flamboro’ -.Withernsea.
4 pilots goto Ledonfield for Link Trainer.

1942-06-20

Another sweep. Squadron set off for West Malling at 09.55 ut ar recalled owing to ba weather, and are at 15 minutes. 12.00 hours set off again and join up with 303. 12.50 hours they set off with bombers. Bombers go fo Havre – Wing sweep Dunkirk region. No encounter Squadron back over base by 18.00. Re-inforcement programme now fixed for 1st July at Redhill.

1942-06-21

a.m. 1 Section scrambles over Flamboro’. Squadron formation flying and attacks. 2 Sections co-operate with Army and attack motorised columns.

1942-06-22

a.m. Three Section protect convoy. formation flying.
p.m. Two sections fly to r.A.F. BURN to arrange for attacks on Liberator bombers.

1942-06-23

a.m. Three Sections patrol Flamboro’. Practice attacks on Liberators at Burn. 1 Section scrambles and patrols Hornsea – Flamboro’.
p.m. Eve of Squadron festival. Short ceremony at Dispersal where roll of pilots in called.

1942-06-24

1st Anniversary of Squadron’s firs sweep over France in celebrated – the day having been recognised as the official festival day of the Squadron. Mass celebrated at Dispersal. W/Cdr. Rolski represents Polish authorities. Joint luncheon for Officers and airmen. At which Polish cabbage dish – Bigos – is served. In evening Polish ENSA artists give programme.

1942-06-25

a.m. Two sections scramble scramble. One is directed by Operations, the other patrols convoy. Co-op flights with Army. Dusk flying.
Polish authorities announce list of decorations including Virtuti Militari to F/O. Retinger.

1942-06-26

At dawn 11 sections start off to protect return of some of our bombers who took part in the third one thousand raid over Germany. During day formation flying and attacks. 1 scramble over Flamboro’. Dusk and night flying.

1942-06-27

One section patrols Flamboro’. A flight go to Matlaske for air firing. Night flying.

1942-06-28

a.m. Two sections patrol Flamboro’. Two sections escort convoy. Usual training flights.
p.m. Co-op. flying with Army. Night flying.

a.m. Four sections scramble over Flamboro of which two are sent o patrol convoy. Air firing at Matlaske of B flight. Formation flying and another practice attacks on Liberators at Burn.
p.m. wing formation flight with 303. Night flying.

a.m. At dawn four sections patrol 50 miles over sea, and one flies low over Flamboro’.
p.m. Preparing machines for re-inforement exercises, which should begin next day.
