SPEKE

Squadron Leader H.D.Cooke posted to M.S.F.U. , Speke. S/Ldr.S.Pietraszkiewicz assumed command of No.315 Squadron. F/O. J.Molyneux, Education Officer, posted to No.9 I.T.W., Stratford – on – Avon. F/O. A.G. Stanley, Engineer Officer, ceased to fulfil his duties, and handed over to F/O. S.Luranc.
Hurricane 1 aircraft nos. V.7081 and V.6626 transferred to No.615 Squadron, Valley. Hurricane 1 no.V.7245 transferred from R.A.F. Station, Speke.

F/O. J.Chrzanowski returned from Parachute Packers’ Course. On the withdrawal of the British Engineer Officer from the Squadron, the entire Polish personnel were paraded before the Station Commander, who made a speech congratulating the Polish personnel on the way had overcome all difficulties, and wishing them every success in the future.

There are many airmen on the strength of this Squadron awaiting posting for flying training. From time to time some of them have been posted for such duties, and in order to prepare the personnel still awaiting posting, arrangements have been made for them to have Link Trainer Excercisess.

F/O. J.Czerniak struck the aerodrome boundary, due to engine failue when approaching to land. The aircraft was completely wrecked, but the pilot was uninjured.

Since 30th. June, 1941, a number of pilots have proceeded to Squires Gate each night for Night Flying Training, returning to Speke the following day. As a result of this and other training there are now 13 pilots of this Squadron Night Operational 1.

The Squadron received information that it was to move to NORTHOLT on 14/7/41, and to re-equipx with Spitfire aircraft. In order to give all pilots some training on the new type of aircraft, 4 Spitfires were sent on loan from No.456 Squadron. Preparations for the move were made. Hurricane 1 No.V.7010 transferred to No.256 Squadron.

Three advance parties proceeded to NORTHOLT to receive instruction on the new type of equipment.

Road party left Speke at 14.00 hours for NORTHOLT. The main rail party, with the Squadron Adjutant in charge, left Speke at 23.00 hours.

Rail and road parties arrived safely at NORTHOLT. Reorganisation of Squadron at new station commenced.

Air party (4 Harrow aircraft) arrived safely at NORTHOLT. Pilots were engaged in reconnaissance of Sector. The Squadron is partly re-eqquipped with 10 Spitfire 11A’s. All personnel were billeted at Cherry Lane School, approximately 7 miles from the Camp.

A number of pilots of this Squadron took part in their first Operational flight in new Sector, accompanying No.308 Squadron, and using No.308 Squadron aircraft.

Four Spitfire 11A’s transferred from No.308 Squadron. P/O. J.Czachowski failed to return from Offensive Patrol over Northern France with No.306 Squadron. No details of his loss were available.

Six Spitfire 11B’s arrived from no616 Squadron.

F/O. Falkowski arrived on posting from No.32 Squadron, F/O. Falkowski has completed some 1,300 hours flying, including 15 hours Operational flying in Poland, 10 hours Operational in France, and 120 hours Operational in this Country.
