Air Marshal Sir Roderic Hill K.C.B . M.C. A.F.C. has received a letter from Sir Ernest Gowers K.C.B. K.B.E. London Regional Defence Commission of which the following is an extract:-
“At a recent meeting of my Standing Committee of Town Clerks of the London Region a spontaneous and unanimous request was made to me that I should convey to you on behalf of the local authorities in the Region, their deep sense of obligations to the Pilots under your command whose skill and devotion are doing so much to nuligate London;s present ordeal. I gladly to this. We are filled with admiration of their magnificent achievements and I hope you will find it possible to convey this tribute to them so that they may know how fully and grateful London realizes its debt to them”

SIGNAL received from A.O.C. H.Q. No. 11 Group. The following message, which I most heartily endorse, has been received from General Williams, IXth Troop Carrier Command. Please convey to all squadrons & control stations who took part in Airborne operations :Market” yesterday 17th September 1944. Message begins Troop carriers forces returning from operation “Market” report outstanding assistance [&] support by members of your Command. They watched with admiration your fighter pilots take gun positions that would have destroyed troop carrier aircraft and resulted in loss of airborne forces.
