Churchstanton.

An airman pilot flew from Dumfries to Penrhos in the Magister.

1941-09-02

One convoy patrol of 2 hours was carried out.

1941-09-03

There were 2 „scrambles” Turing the Day and 5 patrols made totalling in all 15 hours 30 minutes. No interception was made. An airman pilot flew from Penrhos to Towyn and thence to Churchstanton in the Magister.

1941-09-04

The Squadron flew to Warmwell to Take part in an operations against Cherbourg. All aircraft returned safely, no opposition being encountered. The total flying time was 19 hours 55 minutes.

1941-09-05

The Squadron flew to Warmwell to Assist in a projected operation which did not materialize and they returned to base. Patrols, totalling 6 hours 10 minutes, were carried out.

1941-09-06

Shipping protection, totalling 11 hours, was afforded by the Squadron.

1941-09-07

Two airmen pilots flew to Fairwood Common in Hurricanes while 2 flew to Portreath in the Magister to collect an aircraft. The Squadron carried out 7 patrols, totalling 23 hours.

Convoy patrols, amounting to 38 hours 35 minutes, were made during the day. The Squadron co-operated in a station defence exercise which commenced today at 18,00 hours.

1941-09-09

The station defence exercise ended at 09.00 hours. Convoy patrols, totalling 18 hours 30 mins., were made. F/Lt. Wilczewski flew to Warmwell in a Hurricane to attend a conference.

1941-09-10

Four aircraft of “A” Flight flew to Bolt Head whence patrols were carried out. In all, 24 hours 20 minutes were flown on shipping protection.

1941-09-11

P/O. Szpakowicz flew to and from Warmwell in the Magister. The Squadron carried out 2 patrols totalling 6 hours 30 minutes.

1941-09-12

F/Lt. Gabszewicz and an airman pilot made a “met” reconnaissance flight to the French coast. F/O. Dec flew to and from Henlow in the Magister. The Squadron carried out 6 patrols totalling 16 hours 30 minutes.

1941-09-13

Churchstanton.

F/Lt. Nowierski and an airman pilot carried out a “met” reconnaissance flight to France. F/O. Nosowicz flew to and from Warmwell in the Magister. Therewas one “scramble” and 12 patrols during the day, totalling 32 hours. An airman pilot delivered a Hurricane at Walsall. It is worthy of note that the amount of early morning flying which can be done here is negligible owing to the district being shrouded in mist until mid-forenoon.

F/O. Szalewicz flew to Walsall in the Magister to collect an airman pilot. P/O. Sawicz made a “met” reconnaissance flight over France and 8 patrols, totalling 16 hours 40 minutes, were carried out.

1941-09-15

“B” Flight flew to Warmwell to carry out air firing practice. An airman pilot was ordered to shot down a stray balloon but was unsuccessful. The Squadron carried out 4 patrols totalling 12 hours 15 minutes.

1941-09-16

An airman pilot while flying at 20,000 ft. in close formation during a training flight felt his aircraft vibrate very strongly and after a moment the engine cut out. He decided to land and after gliding for a time observed he was over Chivenor, where to landed without damage to the aircraft or himself. W/C. Hill flew to and from Yelverton in the Magister. An airman Pilot flew to Chivenor to pick up the pilot who had force landed. 30 hours 10 minutes involving ten patrols, were flown on shipping protection.

1941-09-17

“B” Flight took off on a “Met” reconnaissance flight to the French coast. Visibility was good but nothing of interest was seen. 30 hours 35 minutes operational flying were done by the squadron.

1941-09-18

The Squadron flew to Bolt Head and carried out 11 patrols, totalling 28 hours 40 minutes.

1941-09-19

F/O. Nartowicz and F/O. Klawe flew to Middle Wallop in the Magister. The squadron carried out four patrols, totalling 10 hours 5 minutes.

1941-09-20

The squadron took part in an offensive operation over the Cherbourg peninsula, lasting 15 hours 30 minutes. No enemy opposition, either from the ground or from the air, was encountered and all aircraft returned safely to base.

1941-09-24

The squadron carried out seven patrols, totalling 19 hours 20 minutes.

F/O. Grzech posted to No. 316 (Polish) Squadron, Northolt, while P/O. Szpakowicz is posted to No. 306 Squadron, Northolt, both for flying duties.

Shipping protection, involving three patrols, totalling 9 hours 50 minutes, was afforded by the the squadron. P/O. Wyszkowski has been posted from No. 303 (Polish) Squadron for flying duties.
