P/O. Kondracki, while approaching to land and flying between 500 and 600 feet, discovered his engine had cut. On his last circuit he had opened the cockpit hood, lowered the undercarriage and flaps but does not remember whether or not he changer the airscrew to fine pitch. On realising that the engine had stopped, he put the undercarriage selector in the “up” position and attempted to find a suitable place for a forced landing. The engines started again however but irregularly , and the pilot thought he would be able to land normally. At 50 feet the irregularity became more pronounced and P/O. Kondracki attempted to retract his undercarriage and forced land but the aircraft hit the ground before the retraction was complete. The pilot was unhurt but the airscrew, undercarriage, under part of fuselage and main planes were damaged.
