1944-03-01

Training flying consisting of eleven aircraft, carried out in the form of Squadron formation, battle formation, and low flying. Also, five local aerobatic flights performed. Both flights carried out readiness in turn, from 07.30 to 19.14.

1944-03-02

Training flying continued in witch seven aircraft took part in formation flying, four aircraft in low flying, and four pilots in co-operation with G.C.I. “B” Flight readiness from 13.00 to 19.16.

1944-03-03

Continued training flying consisted of seven a/c carrying out flight formation, and low flying attacks. Six a/c do tests for night flying, while five a/c co-operate with G.C.I. station. Twelve night flying sorties also carried out. F/L Malczewski posted to 302 Squadron. Readiness kept by both flights in turn from 07.10 to 19.18.

Readiness by both flights from 07.10 to 13.00 & 13.00 to 19.18 respectively. Four a/c take part in cross-country flight (Base – York – Leconfield – Doncaster - Base). Two pilots carried out aerobatics, seven did formation flying, and 6 a/c test flights to Northolt. Readiness as usual.

1944-03-05

P/O Gora, and F/Sgt. Fusiara “scrambled” from base at 16.15 hours, and returned to base at 17 mins later. Training flying consisted of twelve formation and low flying-dog fighting cine-camera exercises: three a/c did aerobatics: four a/c tests, and seventeen night flying sorties.
Readiness as usual.

Very dull and foggy weather. One a/c did weather test, and one a/c returned from Northolt. Readiness as xxxx usual. W/Cmdr. Bajan held a conference with pilots. In afternoon, pilots did Link Trainer exercises, and P.T.

Training flying carried in the form of nine pilots doing formation, low, & battle formation flying, using cine-cmaeras. Two pilots, did local aerobatics, and two a/c tests. Readiness as xxxxx usual.

Continued training flying, and the usual readiness state maintained.

Adverse weather conditions prevented any flying being carried out. Lecture delivered to pilots on tank recognition, and Squadron Commander gave instructional talk.

1944-03-10

Training flying undertaken, and 13 nightflying sorties carried out. Six local flights performed. Usual state of readiness.

1944-03-11

F/Sgt Szymanski, & F/Sgt Narloch “scrambled” returning to base in 25 minutes. Training flying by way of eleven sorties in battle formation, low flying, and cine-camera exercises. Four a/c did air test, while the [Illegible] number partook in army co-operation exercises.

F/Lt Bokowiec was posted to No. 3118 S.Ech. No flying, save for one weather test carried out, owing to adverse weather conditions.

1944-03-13

Usual readiness state kept. Some training flying on a small scale. F/O Wlazlo, A. posted for Admin. duties. In afternoon, a lecture given on “careless talk” and later games were played in the Gym.

Formation flying, cine-camera gun exercises, air firing exercises, and aircraft test carried out.
Readiness state as usual.

1944-03-15

Twentyeight sorties carried out during training flying which consisted of formation flying, air to ground firing, and aerobatics. F/O Kurylowicz was posted to No. 5 P.D.C. Readiness as usual.

1944-03-16

Inclement weather prevented arganised flying today, but one flight carried out weather tests. F/L Kaczmarek was posted to No. 18 9P) Fighter Wing H.Q. & F/O Figiel posted to no. 411 R.S.U. Usual readiness state was kept.

Two a/c test only carried out owing to continued adverse weather. F/Lt Szumowski posted to this unit for flying duties. Instructional lecture by Squadron C.O. on destruction of a/c forced landed in enemy occupied countries. Usual readiness state maintained.

1944-03-18

Two a/c “scrambled” and patrolled over base. Eighteen sorties carried out during training flying which consisted of flight formation, battle formation flying, aerobatics, and cine-camera gun exercises. Usual state of readiness.

Continued training flying in which 19 sorties of formation, and local flying, cine-camera gun exercises, and a/c tests, were carried out. Usual readiness state maintained.

1944-03-20

Training flying consisted of thirteen air to ground firings, six a/c in formation flying, battle formation, and low flying. Also air to ground firing later in the day, six local flights, and army co-operation exercises. Usual state of readiness maintained.

1944-03-21

Eighteen training sorties carried out, and during a practice ‘scramble bomber attack” the a/c of F/Sgt Kowalski deveoped engine trouble, and in attempting to force land, he crased, and sustained injuries which proved fatal. Usual readiness state.

1944-03-22

Inclement weather prevented flying today. Indoor swimming at Southport baths. P.T. carried out during the afternoon. Usual readiness state kept.

1944-03-23

Continued adverse weather prevailing, thus no flying executed. Indoor swimming, and later P.T. A/c tank recognition exercises during afternoon.

1944-03-24

Training flying consisting of flight formation, and cine cameragun exercises. Two local flights, and three a/c tests. Usual readiness state maintained.

1944-03-25

Sixsteen sorties carried out in training flying, which was made up of flight formation flying, and aerobatics. Readiness as usual. F/Sgt. Kowalski buried at Formby.

Eighteen sorties consisting of Squadron, flight, and battle formation flying carried during the day. Also some dog-fighting, and exercises with cine-camera gun. Normal readiness maintained.

Inclement weather makes flying impossible, so pilots have lecture on S.D. 158, and later practice silhouettes. P.T. exercises in afternoon. Usual readiness state maintained.

1944-03-28

Nineteen training sorties executed, which consisted of practice scramble bomber attacks, Army Co-op. Sector Recco, aerobatics, and transitory flights. Usual readiness maintained.

1944-03-29

Foggy and inclement weather prevent any flying being carried out, and pilots had recognition tests. In afternoon P.T. was carried out in the Gym. Usual readiness state.

Nineteen sorties in training flying, the nature of which, is as follows:- Ten sorties in air to ground firing; four local formation flying: two dog-fighting with use of cine-camera; three a/c test. Usual readiness stated.

Nineteen sorties carried out which consisted of training flying in the form of night flying; Flight and battle formation flying; transitory flights, and a/c tests.
